Who are the Reno Quakers?

"Quaker" is a popular name for a member of the Religious Society of Friends, and this is the website for the Reno Monthly Meeting.  Members also are known as "Friends."  As Quakers, we believe that our religious insights, attitudes, and practices form a way of life.

First-time visitors may want to read about
your first time in a Quaker meeting.

Quakers have no dogmas or creeds. We have no one definition of God. Each of us seeks to experience the religious life for her or himself and to share our experiences with others in the Meeting. We have the conviction that each of us can have direct experience of the Spirit of God and that something of God is expressed in everyone's life. Quakers in general believe that we are all of one family and should have equal access to the earth's resources.

more about Quakers, and more about our Faith and Practice.
A Quaker Meeting is based on silence, an expectant silence of waiting, in which we seek to come nearer to each other and to God.  Occasionally a Meeting will pass in total silence. The silence may be broken if someone feels compelled by the Spirit to speak, pray or read. After an hour the Meeting ends with the shaking of hands.

We do not take up a collection during Meeting, and we do not try to convert those who attend Meeting. You are welcome to attend Meeting as often as you like, without any expectation or pressure to join or donate to the Meeting.
